At a remote military outpost in 1863 Italy, Captain Giorgio Bachetti eases the pain of his separation from the ravishingly beautiful Clara in a series of romantic letters when he meets Fosca, the melancholy cousin of his Colonel. Wracked with pain and broken by the injustices of life, she falls in love with Giorgio, who doesn't share her feelings. Both are transformed by her unrelenting emotions as they come to understand the true meaning of love, his world unravelling as hers expands …
Written by James Lapine and the master of modern musical theatre Stephen Sondheim (whose ‘Sweeney Todd’ was brought to mass audiences in the recent hit movie), ‘Passion’ is a sweeping, romantic musical that sees leading local theatre company CCADS return to the unique setting of The Kings Theatre Stage 2 following their multi award-winning production of ‘Katherine Howard’ in last year’s season.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a stunning piece of theatre that is sure to touch the hearts of all who see it in one of its very first non-professional productions after acclaimed runs on Broadway and in London’s West End …
‘ .. the shapely beauty and emotional vibrancy of Mr. Sondheim's score .. unsettling, ultimately shattering force.. pure, persuasive and powerful ..’ New York Times
